Shaking the bottles#
Shaking the salinometer bottles. If bottles are left over some time, the water in the bottles can begin to stratify, potentially biasing the meaurements. Shaking them up before sampling ensures that the water in the bottles is well-mixed. Doing this 10 minutes before sampling helps avoid bubbles in the water.
Flushing the cell#
Flushing the salinometer cell.
With the pump running, hold your thumb over the FLUSH hole to empty the water in the cell (the water will exit through the CELL DRAIN tube outlet). Take your thumb off the hole to let the cell refill again. Carefully monitor that the conductivity fills with water again, and that there are no bubbles in the cell.
Clean the sample tube#
Clean the sample tube. Before you process a new sample, clean off the sample tube and briefly run the pump to ensure there is no water in the tube.
