  2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\feltbruker\Desktop\SST_SDA\NEWSoftware and open SSDA_226

  3. Cross out the header window that pops up.

  4. Make sure the right .prb and .spj files are used: MSS053-COM_MOD.SPJ and MSS053-COM_mod.prb. Choose under “file” – “modify and load project”

  • COm-port 6, side port used with DU “slanted tape”.

  1. Turn on the deck unit.

  2. Remove caps on sensor.

  3. Lower MSS into the water.

  4. Have ~3 loops of line ready.

  5. Note down time, position, and depth in a log-sheet.

  6. Start recording.

  7. Drop sonde.

    • ❗ Remember MAX DEPTH 500 m.

  8. While the probe falls, pay out enough cable so that ~3 loops can be seen in the water.

    • Too much can cause knots and risks the cable drifting horizontally toward props etc.

    • Too little slack can cause the instrument not to free-fall and thereby ruin the measurement.

  9. Stop the winch a little before target depth (10-20 m).

    • Note the depth on the log sheet.

  10. Stop recording when the sonde is no longer falling freely.

    • Note the depth on the log sheet.

  11. Press yes when prompter “Do you want to add the header_comment”, and the cross the header window out.

    • “Save as a template”: no

  12. Pull MSS up to the surface

  13. Save the file without changing the header to C:\Documents and Settings\feltbruker\Desktop\TrollTransect20_21\MSS

    • File name: staXXcastXX

  14. Copy the raw data file (.mrd) to a backup drive.

  15. Repeat cast twice in order to get 3 casts per station.

  16. Pull MSS up on deck and clean with fresh water.

    • ❗ Mind the temperature.
