Finishing up#

  • Flush the cell thoroughly with MQ water, several times.

    • There should be no water in the cell while the instrument is in storage.

  • Empty the water bath (connect a tube to TANK DRAIN/FILL and place the tube in a bucket).

  • Accessories/power cords/bottles and all other equipment goes in the “Salinity Calibration Acessories” box.

  • The salinometer packs up tightly for shipping (also put foam on top of the instrument):

  • Clean any used salinity bottles:

    • Rinse all bottles 3 times with fresh or MQ water.

      • (Easiest to do with all bottles in a crate; turn the crate upside down to empty out the water)

    • Put plastic lids in a freshwater bath (in a bucket or similar).

  • Dry bottles and lids overnight before packing.

Help make these instructions better

If you used these instructions, it is really useful if you can add content you through was missing, modify things that were unclear, or add to the troubleshooting section. This way, we can ensure than the HavNett instructions become better and more useful for the next person (or yourself next time around).

See this page if you’d like to contribute directly to the source documents, otherwise get in touch with Øyvind/Tore or others in the Oceanography section with feedback.
